5 Tips to Help You Set Goals

A lot of people like to set goals at the beginning of each New Year but the truth is, you can set goals anytime you want to. You just have to be willing to commit to them. Of course, this is much easier said than done right? How can you set yourself up for success and ensure that you meet all of your goals over the next year or 10 years? Use the tips below!

Set specific goals. One of the most important things you can do when it comes to goal setting is be specific. Think about what you want to accomplish, how you want to accomplish it, and when you want to accomplish it. If you want to earn a specific amount of money over the year, write it down and plan out how you intend to achieve this goal.

Set attainable goals. Don’t set yourself up for failure from the start by setting an unattainable goal. It’s okay to start small and work your way up to those really lofty dreams you keep locked in the closet but they key is to set specific goals during seasons of your life in which you know you can attain them.

Set realistic goals. Setting realistic goals goes hand in hand with setting attainable goals. If you’re not realistic with your goal setting you’re going to get discouraged and we don’t want that to happen. For example, if you want to run a marathon, it’s not realistic to set that goal for yourself two weeks before the start of the race. If you want to run a marathon, be realistic and start training months (or years depending on your running expertise) in advance so when it’s time to go after your goal, it’s a real possibility that you’ll finish the race and achieve it.

Set deadline goals. A goal isn’t really a goal if it’s not something to complete or achieve by a specific time. Challenge yourself and bask in the glory of (realistic) deadline pressure when you know you’re going to achieve your goal on time. It’s a sensational feeling and you just might surprise yourself along the way.

Don’t doubt yourself. It’s important that you believe in yourself and your ability to meet the goals you have set for yourself. Look at everything you have already accomplished in your life thus far and believe that you can do whatever you set your mind to because you can.
