Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, in Illinois, U.S. During his high school days, he worked for the school newspaper where he wrote about sports. After studies, Hemingway practiced as a reporter for The Kansas City Star.

In 1918, he left his job and went to the Italian Front to serve as an ambulance driver in World War 1. However, he was seriously injured by a machine-gun bullet. This experience about War, injury and life would give him material for his Novel A Farewell To arms.

Ernest Hemingway had an affinity with covering war. He was a correspondent for World War II. He played a more than active role during his times as correspondent. He covered the War, but also acted as a soldier. Rumors have it that Hemingway and his unit liberated the Ritz Hotel.

Ernest Hemingway’ The Old Man and the Sea won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953. In 1954, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature. He is to date one of the most famous American novelist and short story writer who influenced and modernized the 20th century fiction writing.

In his later years, Hemingway suffered from depression and on July 2, 1961 he commited suicide.
