Happiness can simply be described as a situation where one feels contented and the experience after that is very satisfying. Finding happiness can be a bit challenging for some people compared to others but this can be possible through self actualization. This is all about discovering yourself, what you need to do with life and probably what you expect from others.
This was very clearly put by J Donald Walters, who said that,
Happiness is an attitude of mind, born of the simple determination to be happy under all outward circumstances.
When growing up, there are those goals that one wants to achieve in life where some people may want to be wealthy businessmen, doctors and pilots among others. These are usually big dreams that a huge number of people do not like to achieve. However, there is a group of people with simple goals like being teachers. Achieving any of these goals makes one happy, and this is all about the attitude that was set.
Still considering the above scenarios, you may not achieve your goal to be a pilot, and this can be quite discouraging. However, you may feel pretty satisfied on meeting people with less appealing careers like teachers. In simple terms, you will be happier in life if your expectations are low.
Happiness as we grow older
One thing with children is that they are always happy, and their sad moments will disappear in a matter of seconds, the moment what they missed is provided. As we grow older, we keep on wanting more and more but only a few of these desires end up being fulfilled. This list keeps on growing and life is eventually filled with miseries. You will; therefore, find that happiness decreases as people grow older.
Achieving happiness
When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us. – Helen Keller.
What this simply means is that you should not focus on what you failed to achieve since doing so will just pull you down. Instead, focus on your achievements and you will be smiling all the way. Always make realistic goals and try to minimize your desires. This way, your life will be full of achievements where you will fulfill most of your desires, and all this will amount to happiness. Life will be more meaningful when you are happy.
